Send your NCS details

You have a letter from National Credit Systems about a debt in your state. Dispute in writing before the end date on NCS's notice, and NCS must pause collecting until it sends proof. Send the amount, the end date and whether you got court papers; if you say yes, a consumer lawyer in your state can look at them.

Have you been sued?

Sending this costs nothing and commits you to nothing. We keep your answers with the collector's name, and you decide whether a consumer lawyer sees them. Debt Collector Lookup is not a law firm or a debt collector. The form does not schedule a call; to talk, call our debt help line during business hours.

Who is National Credit Systems and whose debt do they collect?

National Credit Systems collects for the company you first owed and keeps a cut of what it brings in. NCS is a collection agency with its main office in Georgia. The company that first lent you the money may be a different name on your letter.

Is this NCS call or letter real?

A letter or call using the name National Credit Systems does not prove you owe a debt. A real collector gives you its name, street address and phone number. It also gives you the details of the debt.

Scammers refuse to give those details. They threaten arrest or hide their mailing address. Some ask for your personal information on the first call.

  1. Hang up and call NCS back on a number from its own website.
  2. Ask for the validation notice, which is due within five days of first contact.
  3. Check the creditor name and account number against your own records.

If the caller fails any of the three steps, stop talking. Do not pay, and do not share your bank or Social Security number.

For example, if NCS first called on March 3, the notice is due by March 8. If five days pass after the first call with no notice from NCS, write and ask for it before you pay anything. The FTC lists the signs of a fake collector. Check the signs of a fake collector.

What is National Credit Systems's phone number?

We could not read a phone number from NCS's website. Look up the website yourself and use the number it lists. Do not call back the number that called you.

Will NCS sue you?

NCS is listed as a collection agency. It collects for the company that owns the debt. A lawsuit would come from the owner or a law firm it hires. A collection letter does not tell you if a lawsuit is coming.

If you get court papers, find the answer date on the summons right away. California gives 30 days to answer a regular civil case, and other courts set their own dates. If you miss the date, the court can enter a default judgment. Then the collector can ask to take money from your paycheck or bank account.

Example from the California courts' self-help site: papers served March 3 with 30 days to answer are due April 2. Your summons shows your own date, so find it today. Read how to answer the lawsuit.

Sued by NCS?

If NCS sued you in your state, your answer is due by the date printed on the summons. Missing that date can let NCS win by default and seek money from your paycheck or bank. Call with the summons in hand before that date.

Will NCS delete the account if you settle?

You can offer NCS less than the full balance. Before you pay, get the amount, the due date and the promise to stop collecting in writing. If you want the entry removed from your credit report, ask for that in writing too. Use the pay for delete letter to make that request.

We have not seen a published deletion policy from NCS, so ask for its terms in writing.

The CFPB explains how to get a settlement in writing before you pay.

What letter should you send NCS first?

Send your dispute in writing before the end date printed on your validation notice. For a covered debt, NCS must pause collecting the disputed amount until it sends proof. A dispute letter does not replace an answer to court papers. Start with the validation letter to NCS.

The CFPB lists what the notice must show.

What do complaints about NCS say?

The federal complaint database lists 15,027 complaints since October 2023 under NCS. The top issue is "Attempts to collect debt not owed". A complaint is not a ruling. It does not prove the company broke the law.

So if you do not recognize the debt, dispute it in writing before the end date on the notice.

Questions people ask

Is NCS a real company?

NCS is a collection agency, and we list its website and published numbers. That does not prove a caller works for NCS or that you owe the debt. Compare the name and address on your notice with NCS's own website.

Will NCS take me to court?

A collection letter does not tell you if a lawsuit is coming. No collector can sue on a debt past the time limit in your state. If court papers come, answer by the date on the summons.

Should I pay NCS?

Do not pay before you get the validation notice and check the amount. NCS must send it within five days of first contact. If the debt is yours, get any settlement in writing before you pay.

How do I stop NCS from calling me?

Send NCS a letter asking it to stop contacting you, and keep a copy. It can still write to confirm it will stop or to say it is suing. Calls at work must stop once you say your job does not allow them.

What happens if I ignore NCS?

The letters and calls can keep coming. The account can stay on your credit report for up to seven years. If you are sued and do not answer, the court can rule against you without hearing your side.
